Higher education student and staff mobility project
Start date: Jun 1, 2014, End date: May 31, 2016 PROJECT  FINISHED

A large part of the IAA's students complete part of their studies abroad as part of their studies. And the Academy receives in return a diverse group of students from various countries who come to study for shorter or longer periods. In addition to regular student exchanges, many students and recent graduates have received training abroad in the form of internship. This addition and new opportunity within the Erasmus+ programme has been very well received by students and staff. Both students and recent graduates are keen to make this experience as part or additon to their studies, and the staff has been very helpful in terms of assisting them in finding opportunities to make internship abroad. The numbers of mobility bear witness to this fact. There seems to be a balance in terms of which countries our students choose to go to, and which countries we receive students from in return. As every incoming and outgoing student needs to apply for a place at the hosting school by presenting his/her portfolio of work (and there being a competition for study places at both ends each time) - this balance is not something one can take for granted. Each semester, students are asked to share their stories from abroad to their fellow students. This form of evaluation has proved to be very successful in motivating other students to go abroad. Every year, the IAA is also sending higher number of staff abroad for training, but we use the same method of disseminating results, i.e. we ask our outgoing staff to share their experience with their colleagues once they return. This is also an important opportunity for all staff members to learn about practices in our partner universities. In long term, both student and staff exchanges are of immense value. These activities have become an integral part of the Academys' activites both in teaching and learning activities. Hosting students from various countries brings in new perspectives and new dynamics to the student body. Two of the Academy's departments offer internship abroad as part of studies for up to 30 ECTS value. This means that students in performing arts (theatre and dance) can choose to make internship abroad for a full semester. Other students can benefit from either making short term internship (2-3 months during the summer months, with the value of 2 ECTS), - and all students can choose to apply for internship following their graduation. Majority of our graduates in spring 2016 did in fact apply for this type of grant, and a few of them have already started their placements abroad.
