Higher education student and staff mobility project

Since 2006, the Region has coordinated a consortium which regroups six regional higher education establishments.
Our project has included the following priorities:
- the dynamics of the competitiveness clusters of the Limousin (Ceramics and Elopsys) and the interregional clusters (Cancer Bio-Health, Electrical energy systems, Meat and meat products and Viameca) ;
- the inclusion of Health and Social establishments attached to the Region following the decentralisation process (transfer of this responsibility to the Regions).
The aim was to offer students the opportunity to benefit from a personal, linguistic and cultural enrichment, coupled with a professional experience in order to help obtain a diploma and their professional integration in the European job market.
Our project has met their expectations by encouraging and facilitating their departures to Europe within the framework of the Erasmus + programme, via a linguistic, cultural, administrative, logistics and financial support.
For higher education establishments, it meant increasing their attractiveness and reach by giving a European dimension to their courses.
The consortium has developed European work placements for post-baccalaureate students ("Bac +1 year to Bac + 5 years").
The placements have been made in targeted economic sectors in order to meet the professional needs of the students by learning a particular knowhow satisfying the demands of their training.
Cross-sectional training have been included (economics, law, business management and Health and Social sectors).
120 placements have been carried out within the project (academic year 2014-2015), of which 65 engineering students, 34 from the scientific and technical sectors and 21 from more cross-sectional training.
Belgium, the United Kingdom, Spain and Germany have been the main destinations.
This project has once again reinforced the links between higher education establishments and the industrial world by perpetuating the existing partnership between the sender establishment and the host company. It has also enabled a recognition, on a European level, of training delivered by these establishments.
Some European companies have hosted limousin students for many years.
Furthermore, this programme has also enabled to detect new placement opportunities and the creation of new networks.
When questioned in a survey at the end of the work placement period on their wish to develop transnational exchanges with higher educational establishments, 82% of the European host companies surveyed responded positively. This result gives us reason to be optimistic about the sustaining of the relationships established within the project.
Furthermore, the testimonies of students let us affirm once again, that the benefits of a mobility experience are numerous.
In fact, the students complete their theoretical training with a very enriching experience from a cultural and linguistic point of view.
They also develop their personal qualities (intellectual curiosity, self-confidence, autonomy, open-mindedness, sociability…).
Finally, these experiences will have helped prepare students for their future professional integration and facilitate their employability.
All these results allow us to confirm that our project has achieved the objectives stated in our application file.
