Our school is committed to supporting international opportunities. We have made the mobility of our BTS CIRCE (two-year technical diploma in international trade) students a priority. These students are required to spend a minimum of 4 weeks on a work placement abroad, which is why the school has applied for Erasmus + funding since 2009. The school recently extended applications to reach out to both teaching and non-teaching member of staff. These grants promote equality when it comes to getting a place on the BTS CIRCE course, and they enable students to choose the country in which they wish to do their work placement according to their career plans and personal preferences. The grants also enable members of staff to follow courses or observe teaching practices in order to improve their own teaching skills or discover new education systems. During the 2014-2016 project, 13 students, 3 economics / management teachers and one Spanish teacher, who all teach BTS CIRCE courses, were allocated Erasmus + grants. The 13 students all completed a 9 to 13 week placement. They were given prospection and customer follow-up tasks to fulfil. Two teachers attended a one-week English language course, and one teacher attended a one-week course in Spanish language and culture. One teacher observed teaching practices on an equivalent international trade course which is run in a Spanish secondary school. Our students acquired work experience together with professional skills which they will be able to highlight when they enter the world of work. They also expanded their professional network, increased their autonomy and cultural openness. The economics / management teachers, two of whom use foreign language resources in the course of their teaching and one of whom already teaches part of the curriculum through English, have managed to add extra value to their teaching as a consequence. These teachers are responsible for making contact with the students’ host companies and their mobility has helped them to strengthen student moitoring during work placements. The Spanish teacher has strengthened her teaching in the field of international trade by broadening her specific business vocabulary and she has discovered new teaching techniques and resources. In the long term, these experiences are designed to improve the school’s economic partnerships, encourage the setting up of partnerships with European schools and more generally, broaden the international scope of the lycée Marguerite Yourcenar.
