Higher education student and staff mobility project
Start date: Jun 1, 2014, End date: Sep 30, 2015 PROJECT  FINISHED

This project is related to our school objective of educating the professionals that Hotel and Catering Industry needs, professionals who will carry out their professional activity on the basis of mobility, language knowledge and lifelong learning. In order to get that, we encourage students in their second and last school-year to take part in a three months long mobility programme. We have been carrying out mobility programs since 2007-2008 school-year, firstly aimed to students taking Intermediate Level Technician studies and since 2010-2011 school-year focused on students taking Upper Level Technician studies. We deal our own projects and furthermore we get grants managed by Ikaslan (Basque Country?s Public Vocational Training Schools Organization). Thus all the students have the opportunity to take part in these programmes. So far 85 students have taken part in mobility programmes, and taking into account we are a small school, this is a great number. As we stated in our Erasmus Policy Statement, we want 30% of the students who do the ?Training? module to do it in a foreign country by 2020. In 2014-2015 school-year this percentage has been 22% in the case of students in Upper Level Technician Degrees and 18% if we consider the Upper Level and the Intermediate Level students. The project we have dealt in 2014-2015 school-year was aimed to seven Upper Level Technician in Kitchen Management students but we were given four grants to which we have added three grants managed by Ikaslan. We put much care when selecting participants, in order to allow them to get a profitable internship. The selection criteria are: attitude, academic progress and language knowledge. The participants have carried out a three month long traineeship in restaurants, hotels or related companies carrying out activities related to their ?Training? module which has been recognized once the mobilities have been satisfactorily completed. The companies which have hosted the students have been previously selected and we have agreed with them on the competences to be acquired by the participants, the tasks to be carried out, the calendar-timetable and the monitoring process. We take into account the preferences of the students when deciding the host countries. So far we have mainly sent students to Italy and we will continue working with Italian companies because we have got a satisfactory experience, but we want to diversify the host countries in order to allow students to acquire knowledge about other gastronomic cultures and to make them improve their English level. Thus in 2014-2015 school-year we have had students in Italy, Malta and Poland. The students have evaluated the experience satisfactorily and they have highly recommended to take part in this programmes. We have given information (webpage, notice-boards, meetings?) about the project?s progress in order to encourage people (students and staff) to take part in these programs the next school-years. Furthermore we encourage meetings among ex-participants in mobility programmes and current students. In this way we want students to consider these traineeships as a key element in their professional and personal education because thus they will be interested in taking part in these programmes and that will allow us to educate the professionals that the Hotel and Catering Industry needs.
