The project aims to keep moving forward in the internationalization of vocational education, providing vocational education and training students with the possibility of undertaking a traineeship in European companies. This is a long-standing objective in our institution as we have been offering our students the opportunity to gain professional experience in European companies for seven years under the previous Erasmus Charter for the Lifelong Learning Programme. In addition, in this project we set out to encourage our staff to participate in training courses for the first time. The suggested aim was to know the German dual vocational training system, and apply the good practices observed to our institution. Thus, in collaboration with the German high school Handelslehranstalt Hamln, we had interviews with representatives from the Chamber of Commerce of Hannover and the public employment service of Hamelin, as well as with those responsible for the training of several companies; we also visited different companies and attended meetings and classes in the high school. The experience gained in this mobility programme has been really positive and we have strengthened a closer collaboration with the equivalent high school of Hamelin. Spanish students have conducted their traineeship in companies of Madrid with which our high school has collaboration agreements and in turn, our (Spanish) students will also have the opportunity to do their internships in German companies. Moreover, it has also been suggested a future mobility project so that staff from the German high school could come to our high school. The results of the visit and the information about the dual vocational training system were announced to all the teaching staff at the high school and the Education Department of Getafe City Council, which is planning to hold a meeting with the Employment Department and all the local vocational training high schools to promote these studies. We could pass on all what we have learnt in Germany thanks to this project. With reference to the mobility programme for students to do their traineeship, one of the most important achievements has been that one of our students was hired by the company where she conducted her internship in Dublin. However, it is worth pointing out that all students improved their personal autonomy, their linguistic competence and boosted their CV with a work experience in a European country; all these aspects will certainly improve their employability. Five students were initially awarded with the opportunity to undertake their traineeship abroad and three members of staff took part in professional developing programmes. However, another member of staff participated as well, and thus, they were nine in total. The effects of the project have been very positive, not only for the already mentioned achievements but also for the motivation fostered in our staff, as this project has encouraged other teachers to apply to these mobility programmes and start exchanging experiences with other training institutions and European companies. Thus, we firmly believe that this exchange of experiences, knowledge and good practices with students and staff will improve the quality of higher education fully integrated and engaged with the objectives proposed by the European Union.
