Higher education student and staff mobility project
Start date: Jun 1, 2014, End date: Sep 30, 2015 PROJECT  FINISHED

?zmir University of Economics performed 133 Erasmus student (study and traineeship) and staff (teaching) mobility activities in 2014-2015 academic year by using 207.511 ? (178.461 ? individual support and travel support + 29.050 ? Organizational Support) grant within the budget assigned by Turkish National Agency. As the grant assigned was below the expected grant declared on the application phase, IUE increased the number of the students supported by Erasmus grant by transferring grant among the mobility activities within the budget limits. Erasmus+ student mobilities were performed in 20 European countries and the most popular destinations were Portugal, Germany, Spain, Hungary, The Netherlands, Slovenia, Slovakia, Poland. When we look at the academic programs students of which benefited Erasmus+ mobilities at most are Architecture, Industrial Engineering, International Trade and Finance, Logistics Management, Business Administration, Economics. Statistics shows that the students studying at the following programs as Sociology, Cinema and Digital Media, Civil Engineering, Food Engineering, and Law did not perform any Erasmus+ mobility. One of the main reasons of this is that the number of Erasmus+ agreements for these programs are lower than other programs as they are new ones. There are new initiatives to develop the partnership network areas for these academic programs. Another reason can be listed as the courses offered at the current partner universities are generally in mother tongue and this decreases the students? interest in the mobility programs since they concern about prolonging their study period depending on language inacurracies in courses. In 2014-2015 academic year, an analysis was carried out to see the current status of the faculties/programs with less Erasmus agreements; initiatives for cooperation with different universities were started and new agreements were signed with compatible ones. In this respect, it becomes easier for the students of those departments to choose universities suitable for their programs. It is clearly seen that, when compared with the previous years, there is an increase in the number of the students who applied for student mobility activities. The students who participated previously in the program shared experience and positive feedback with new nominated students which helped increase the interest. Since 2005-2006 academic year, 540 IUE students took part in Erasmus programs. 132 out of 540 have been evaluated as part of IEU Alumni Labor Force Project. The evaluation results revealed that 96% (127 students) of 132 graduates found jobs after they graduated. When we look at the current situation, 122 graduates (92%) have professions in the labor force and are still working. Also, 17 (14%) of these 122 working graduates established and ran their own businesses. The study reveals that students, who participated in Erasmus program, got into the labor force on the average of 5.3 months after graduation, whereas regular IUE graduates find jobs in a period of 6,4 months after graduation. If we consider that finding a job for individuals between the ages of 20-24 in Turkish labor force is 7,3 months, it is clear that graduates of IUE who participated in Erasmus program are able to enter labor force in a shorter time. Also, graduates are able to hold their jobs approximately 2 years (21 months) once they enter the labor force. Another fact revealed by this project is that entry level salary for IUE graduates, who participated in Erasmus programs, is 2503 TL (appr. 800 ?) on the average. When considered in terms of sectors, the study reveals that IUE graduates, who participated in Erasmus program, found jobs in education, banking, and informatics sectors the most after they graduated. In the framework of Erasmus+ traineeship mobility, IUE students had the chance to conduct their traineeship abroad. The students who took part in this mobility activity were from following departments: Architecture (3 students), Public Relations and Advertising (2 students), Business Administration (1 student), Software Engineering (1 student), Industrial Engineering (1 student), Electrical and Electronics Engineering (1 student). Due to the lack of adequate Erasmus grant, quotas were allocated equally for each faculty and the applications of the students were evaluated in the framework of these quotas. IUE academics pay great interest to Erasmus+ teaching staff mobility that give them the chance to visit partner universities. However, Erasmus+ grant allocated to IUE was below the expected amount requested at the application phase. In addition to this, a vast sum of allocated teaching mobility grant was transferred to student mobility activities with the decision of the university administration in order to support student mobilities. Due to these two main reasons, there was a decrease in the number of teaching staff mobility in 2014-2015 academic year.
