Context and project background
The Ministry of Education, Culture and Sports of the Government of Cantabria has been promoting the international dimension of education through the participation of its educational centers in different international mobility programs over time.
Decree 4/2010 of 28 January, the general organization of vocational training in the education system of the Autonomous Community of Cantabria provides in Article 8 the international dimension of vocational training.
The Spanish Service for Internationalization of Education (SEPIE) acts as the National Agency for the management, distribution, promotion and impact studies of the new Erasmus + program in the field of education and training (2014-2020).
The Erasmus + program offers new opportunities for study, training and work experience or volunteering abroad, with the aim of a Europe that generates higher levels of employment and increased productivity.
The Ministry of Education, Culture and Sports of the Government of Cantabria coordinates a consortium, consisting in 22 public centers which provide Vocational Education Higher Degrees, and It aims that students perfom internships in workplaces in Europe, while pursuing professional training module in workplaces.
Objectives
- Improve student's attitudes, language and cultural skills, their professional skills, and their transversal skills related to new technologies.
- Increase student's motivation by learning alternating with work in another country, in order to increase employment opportunities and facilitate employability.
- Create appropriate conditions, in different environments, especially in the workplace.
Number and profile of participants
26 of the 47 scholarships awarded, have been financed by the European Union through the SEPIE, which contributed with 58% of the grant’s amount. The remaining 42% as well as the financing of another 21 scholarships Erasmus has fully corresponded to the Ministry of Education, Culture and Sports of the Government of Cantabria.
Destinations of 47 mobilities performed are distributed as follows:
• Germany: 7 students
• Ireland: 17 students
• Poland: 13 students
• UK: 10 students
The 21 mobilities performed with "zero grant" have been distributed as follows:
• Germany: 7 students
• Ireland: 1 student
• Poland: 13 students
The 47 students who have been involved in the program are students of the following Higher Level Training Cycles:
• Administration and finance
• Aero Maintenance
• Trade and marketing
• Administration of networked computer systems
• Web application development
• Administration and management
• physical and sports activities
• Graphic arts
• Agricultural
• Personal image
• Energy and water
• Electricity and electronic
• Transport and vehicle maintenance
• Computers and Communications
• Hostel and Tourism
• Chemistry
Description of the activities carried out.
Throughout the program, students have developed the following activities:
• The stays have lasted thirteen weeks, and have been developed in the third term, complying with all the formative requirements established by FCT-3 document.
• Course of linguistic and cultural preparation in the destination country for two weeks at the start of the mobility.
• The mandatory internships in workplaces in Europe, while pursuing the professional module of Workplace Training.
Also, students have been visited twice by supervisors teachers sent by the Ministry of Education, Culture and Sports of the Government of Cantabria, in order to verify the adequaty of the activity of students in companies with established requirements by their formative programs.
Results and impact obtained, and expected long-term benefits
The student satisfaction level can be considered high.
They highlight the great life experience has led them to stay and progress in their English knowledge.
The student's professional skills and English language level have increased as a result of the program, thereby improving their employability.
A significant percentage of students, around 7%, established a working relationship with their host company after the end of the stay.
The assessment of the program by the educational centers is positive, as evidenced by the level of interest shown in the next edition of the program.
Also, the Ministry of Education, Culture and Sports of the Government of Cantabria continues to focus on the international dimension of education and will continue promoting this program and other similar features.
