PROJECT
FINISHED
One of the key 'Goals' in achieving the University of Wolverhampton vision is to internationalise the experience of our students and staff by offering all students the opportunity to participate in exchanges, study trips, placements or work experience with international partners or employers who work in global markets, volunteering and curriculum development. The University of Wolverhampton has a large and diverse student and staff population, offering a broad portfolio of courses, which include academic and vocational subject areas. Mobility opportunities for students cover study areas, such as business, forensic science and nursing, complemented by traineeships in the majority of specialisms, with international partners across Europe. Staff mobility opportunities can offer professional development to the individual, enhancement to the course portfolio and a stronger support mechanism and encouragement for others to undertake mobilities. Strengthening our international presence and contribution to the global community is one of the fundamental aims of our international strategy; the growing popularity of individual mobility, particularly amongst the student body, has been a great success of this project. The project largely achieved its aims to encourage mobility with 62 (67 projected) student traineeships; 25 (27 projected) student study mobility; 34 staff teaching exchanges; 13 staff training exchanges. Throughout the course of the project, individual successes have been recognised and celebrated, via awards ceremonies and personal appraisals. Students and graduates have been involved in our best year yet of overall employability on graduation, with 96% of graduates in employment or further study (DLHE, 2015). Ultimately, as a university, we have a responsibility to prepare our staff and students in the best way possible for life post education, not only from an academic perspective but in the development of the individual as a whole. The socio-economic benefits that international mobility placements can bring not only provides participants with the type of international experience employers value, but will develop individual participants communication skills, confidence, sense of purpose and broaden their ambition. Over 80% of Wolverhampton graduates remain in the West Midlands region and their experiences of international mobility will enhance the skills and outlook of local businesses, organisations and individuals.
