Higher education student and staff mobility project
Start date: Jun 1, 2014, End date: Sep 30, 2015 PROJECT  FINISHED

The University supports both outboound and inbound mobility for staff and students through it's International Office. Although Erasmus+ is promoted to all staff and students, demand for outbound student mobility remains low. The majority, 62% of our student body are from local communities, some of which are included in the most economically deprived in England. In addition, 20% of the student body are engaged in learning through International and regional partner colleges, which effectively excludes them from engagement in Erasmus+ exchanges. A significant proportion of Teesside's students are studying professional development and vocational qualifications part-time, whilst in employment. For example, nursing and professions allied to medicine. This effectively prevents them from engaging in Erasmus+ exchanges. For students based in our main campus and studying appropriate level 4 qualifications, mobility continues to be impacted by this apparent lack of willingness and/or financial barriers which prevent students from travelling beyond the Tees Valley. The University is committed to increasing its profile internationally and facilitating acceess to Erasmus+ as a means to increase the educational and personal development of students.
