Internationality is given high priority at HCU. The internationalization strategy and its priorities which are specified in the Strategy and Development Plan (StEP) are the basis of HCU's EPS. HCU fosters exchange with international think tanks, planning and building schools in its teaching as well as its research activities, in order to be able to educate graduates who are excellently prepared for a globalized work environment, and at the same time produce research outcomes that are fit for the globalized academic world. Erasmus+ has been an important building block that facilitated the attainment of these goals: students, teachers, researchers and administration staff have been offered multifaceted opportunities which allowed them to make a profound international experience in the sense of the HCU’s mission statement. HCU members shall make a substantial international experience over the course of their studies, teaching, or work at HCU that enriches themselves, and in turn the entire HCU. In 2014, 129 participants across all HCU member groups took the chance of making such a profound international experience. Students were prepared for a globalized social and work environment by study and traineeships abroad as well as by cooperation with incoming peers. HCU supports its members' mobility by offering language support as well as a welcoming infrastructure for mobile guests and members, and it offers preparatory and ongoing seminars for its members. For its non-mobile members, HCU's incoming guest students add to a diverse campus setting, which offers a variety of integration programmes and activities. Research and teaching are embedded in a network of excellent international Erasmus+ partner institutions. In 2014, this network has been evaluated, expanded and existing connections have been intensified according to the StEP/EPS. The focus lay on fostering teaching staff mobility, both outgoing and incoming. The HCU constantly reviews its own internationalization process through the direct encounter with international curricula and teaching methods. Promotion of junior staff members' teaching mobility has been particular successful herein. The HCU further established privileged partnerships in the Greater Baltic region, which allowed intensifying the international exchange activities. In addition to the ‘classical’ exchange programmes and measures, so-called Liaison professorships have been nominated for each of these privileged partners to ensure the project’s sustainability.
