Medical University of Silesia is a university with more than 65-year tradition, taking care of the highest quality standards of education, modern, constantly modifying its educational offer. Currently in five Schools of the university educates approx. 10 000 students, in the form of intramural and extramural, in Polish and English programs. University cooperates with universities and research institutions not only in our country but also abroad, carries out research, exchanges of scientific research and academic staff and students, presenting each other experiences and achievements. More than 200 units also located in six teaching hospitals and other entities provide broad access to the laboratories, operating rooms and lecture halls. Clinical units of the university, as an institution with the highest degree of referentiality occupy a significant place in the market of medical services in such areas cardiac surgery, cardiology, hematology, highly specialized surgery, ophthalmology, pediatrics, obstetrics and gynecology. Medical University of Silesia also offers training in PhD and post-graduate programs and has the right to confer doctoral degrees and postdoctoral medical sciences, health sciences and pharmaceutical sciences. Erasmus program was implemented in SUM in 2004. Each year, the program is very popular among students and staff of the university. The project was carried out within the Erasmus+ program under the 2014 financial agreement, for the period from 1 June 2014 to 30 September 2015. The maximum amount of funding amounted to 104 400 euros. Under the agreement, the support should be covered by the 38 students and 14 staff departures. As a result, the traineeship mobility and study mobility were realized by 47 students and seven staff has implemented training and educational mobilities which allowed the overall spending of the amount allocated for this purpose specified in the contract. Medical University of Silesia implementing the mobility project meets the objective set in the strategy of the University, which is the development of mobility of students, aiming to gain knowledge and experience to enable them to prepare better for the medical profession as well as international co-operation also involving the exchange of experience. Participation in the Erasmus+ program and the signed agreements in this regard with many foreign universities has a positive influence on cooperation in the field of exchanging the information about educational programs and the exchange and training of staff. Through participation of the staff, the university acquires foreign academics who are invited to work as a visiting professors. International exchange also affects the amount of funding received by the University within the framework of the Ministry of Health grants.
