The Institut del Teatre takes part of the Erasmus program since the academic year 1998/99. Initially mobilities corresponded only to the School of Dramatic Arts (ESAD) with its three specialties: acting, directing and playwriting, and scenography. From 2004/05 mobilities also included the Conservatory of Dance (CSD) with two specialties: choreography and performance techniques, and dance pedagogy.
Throughout these years the number of mobilities of studies has varied, peaking in 2008/09.
The introduction from the academic year 2008/09 of traineeships mobilities has been a very welcome option by our students with very positive results. Although not all the specialities contemplate a traineeships period in its curricular design, all students can benefit from this mobility with academic recognition.
As regards the mobility of staff, from the beginning the number of mobilities has not undergone significant changes.
Throughout these years we have been expanding the number of partner institutions. At present the Institut del Teatre has signed agreements with 43 high education institutions, which represents a wide range of mobility for our students in each of the specialties. In this sense each of the schools (ESAD and CSD) signs their own agreements.
With respect to the traineeships mobility students directly search for a host institution. When we introduced this type of mobility we tried to reach agreements with some partner institutions but the results were not as expected. So the list of companies offered by the institution at this moment is very limited. We hope to extend it in the future.
Of the 15 Erasmus applications for studies made by the students of the ESAD and CSD for the academic year 2014/15, 7 mobilities have finally been done with partner institutions in Finland, Germany, Poland and the Czech Republic. And from the 9 applications for traineeships, 3 mobilities have been done: 2 in companies in the UK and Germany, and 1 in a theatre in Italy. As regards staff mobility, there were 4 applications and finally 3 mobilities have been done: 1 for teaching in France and 2 for training in Italy and Finland.
The profile of students who have done an Erasmus mobility is as follows: 5 students in acting, 1 student in directing and 1 in dance. The profile of students who have done traineeship mobility is: 2 students in acting and 1 students in directing. Most students are in their fourth year. The staff mobility has been done by teachers.
The duration of the mobilities for studies has been between 4 and 5 months except for a dance student that did a mobility for the whole year. The traineeships mobilities have lasted 2 or 3 months. The staff mobility for teaching lasted 3 days. And one staff mobility for training lasted 6 days and the other one 8 days.
The Institut del Teatre has received a total of 22 students. Of these 5 correspond to the ESAD (2 in scenography, 2 in acting and 1 in directing), and 2 to the CSD (choreography and performance techniques). The remaining 15 students are from an institution in the United Kingdom which are offered special training in English. The CSD also welcomed a staff mobility for teaching.
The result of all mobilities has been highly positive for both the beneficiaries and the institution.
The objectives for the near future would to increase the number of mobilities of both students and staff. In this sense the round table that takes place every year where students who have done an Erasmus mobility the previous year explain their experience to future candidates are important. As regards the mobility of staff it would be necessary to focus more across departments to increase mobilities.
To enhance the mobility during the last years the Institut del Teatre makes a contribution to the project budget for both the mobility of students and staff and the management of information about the city of Barcelona (housing, etc.) through the web of Barcelona Centre Universitari.
Aware that the Erasmus mobility contributes to the internationalization of the institution from the Institut del Teatre we will enhance the mobilities under the Erasmus program so that the maximum of students and staff can benefit from it, focusing on quality.
