Higher education student and staff mobility project

Oniris aims to develop partnerships and institutional networks for academic and research purposes in the European area, for the benefit of its students in order to increase their employability and building their citizenship. Our main objectives are to: identify key partners, select strategic geographic areas according to the recommendations of our Line Ministry and help building active network among researchers. To do so, we need to give students a wide international vision using an ambitious policy of foreign languages teaching, and the development of internships and academic mobility abroad throughout their curriculum. We also wish to attract the best foreign students, PhD fellows, and research professors for the benefit of our institution. We awarded 28 student mobility grants for the first year of the present agreement. Participants are core curriculum students currently enrolled in our institution. Most of outgoing academic mobilities took place at universities offering English language curriculum as we wish to give a priority to English speaking institutions, and those sharing similar Curriculum and same values of solidarity, ethics, and competitiveness. We selected outgoing students on two criteria: academic excellence and language skills. Although our objective is to promote the open-mindedness of our students, we do not want to jeopardize the completion of their training program. Therefore we select students with good academic results and no pending examns. This policy is very satisfying because our students validate all ECTS credits at partner institutions and they also take full personal advantage of their mobility. Each student has validated an average of 30 ECTS credits, each credit fully recognized in his academic curriculum. Our institution has the ambition to promote citizenship in Europe. The results of learning outcomes show that this is satisfactorily achieved by our students. The acquisition of technical skills is generally less well-graded in the participant reports. This could be explained by the fact that for the students skills acquired outside the institution seem less important than the acquisition of inter-personal skills . For incoming students, the number remains low. For veterinary students, we are compelled to limit the number of incomings because we have limited seats for practicals. For engineering students, teaching programs are sometimes not easy to match and this could be an impairment for mobility, in addition to the fact that there is no English-speaking program offered at Oniris at the present time. Qualitatively, the results are close to our expectations. Quantitatively, the number of outgoing mobilities (28) is similar to the average number we typically observe. However, we consider it insufficient and we would like to increase that figure. We aim to increase the number of third year engineer students performing their final internship abroad in order for them to find their first employment in the European space. This is a real challenge as their training period must take place in a company.
