The vocational High school of Rochefort Montagne is a small state school proposing general, technological and professional teaching subjects in 2 fields : animal production and environment.
In 2007, the school has created a 2-year-training (Higher National Diploma) in Management and Conservation of Nature. During the 1st year, our students have shown a real interest in carrying out their 3-month-compulsory- internship abroad : Slovenia, Finland, Germany, Spain, Bolivia, Guatemala…
International cooperation is one of the 5 missions of French Agricultural Education. The opening to the international is written in the school plan. We already have 2 partnerships with Finland and Slovenia that we have chosen according to our expectations and our students’ expectations.
Our objectives are the following:
- To incite our students to move by helping them
- To develop partnerships by respecting our students’ expectations
- To train professionals opened to international stakes
- To improve our teaching practices
- To open our school to the world
- To exchange and take part in projects
We have a class of 18 students every year and the number of students willing to go abroad varies from one year to another.. On this 2014 convention, 2 students could get a European scholarship , the others left on destinations out of Europe.
We had asked for scholarships for our staff but they haven’ t been used.
Looking for a tutor is something in charge of the student but we help him/her : we help them on researches, in administrative procedures, the writing of letters and Cv, language and cultural support…
On this convention, a student left to Italy in the Park “Ente di Gestione delle aree protette delle alpi cozie” to work on the management of wildlife, the creation of information leaflets and a programme to propose activities to primary schools. The other student left to Belgium in the “Parc Naturel des Hautes Fagnes” to work on water analysis, the creation of activities to propose the the public, and the research of invasive plants.
The interships take place at the end of the 1st year of the 2-year-training when our students have already acquired notions in the field of environment and also professional requirements. They are interesting because the students must all the time get information and evolve in front of important European and global stakes. It seems more and more necessary for our future technicians of the environment to know, understand and adapt better to the European and global reality. An internship abroad, which can be moreover recognized thanks to the Europass brings an important added value in a fragile working world, especially among the young.
When they come back, we could notice positive changes among our students : they have learnt much, they are more confident, they are more open minded and they really want to share their experience lived outside our frontiers.
At our level, we systematically give a value to these experiences by making them share their experience the future candidates and by giving them a special place in the school where they can trade information or express themselves by writing anything they want or by posting relevant documents.
We are deeply convinced that living a professional experience abroad can be positive, can have interesting consequences and can make the difference for them when they apply for a job.
