Higher education student and staff mobility project
Start date: Jun 1, 2014,
End date: Sep 30, 2015
PROJECT
FINISHED
The project Erasmus+ 2014, as its predecessors already, was an integral part of TU Chemnitz' activities in regard to internationalisation. It was the basis for the, with a distance, biggest part of all the mobility activities that took place in the concerned time frame - especially student mobility. The project activities are firmly incorportated in the Departments in concern. They are being connected to all relevant units at TU Chemnitz, not only in regard to administrational but also academical matters (International Office, Departments/Faculties, University Management). The primary aims of the project's realisation were to enable a possibly large number of eligible applicants to participate in the programme, to realise all activities in compliance with the parameters, commitments and guidelines of the programme as well as the continued development of the activities regarding internationalisation and the strengthening of TU Chemnitz' international orientation. The number of mobilities in the field of SMS comprised of students from 7 out of 8 Faculties, coming from more than 20 different study programmes from Bachelor level as well as Master level. The numbers for staff mobility comprised of members of staff from 7 different Departments, having different levels of seniority. In the field of SMS mobilities were mainly carried out on a 1-semester basis with an average duration of 4.5 months. Teaching staff mobilities had an average duration of 4.5 days and were granted on the basis of the newly introduced fixed grants for travel an individual daily support. All fields of activities were being advertised without resctrictions in terms of academic fields and were being published using different channels of information, e.g. online information, e-mail, information sessions, leaflets and personal counseling. The budget, approved by the National Agency, was entirely respectively nearly entirely spent in the single fields of mobility. The overall extent of satisfaction of the participants was very good. Additionally, the newly introduced language support OLS could be introduced successfully to the participants in concern. Also the extent of improvement of the competences that were featured in the questions of the EU-Survey was, especially among the student participants, very pleasing. The incorporation of the results of the EU-Survey reports into meetings and discussions with comitees involved in the topic played a crucial role in terms of further optimising processes of internationalisation at TU Chemnitz. Furthermore, personal reports written by SMS outgoings that were made available via the International Office's homepage could contribute to the motivation of potential future outgoing students. The existing Erasmus+ partnerships could be strengthened by the continued cooperation. Former outgoing students also contribute by their voluntary involvement in the International Office's Student Buddy Programme to an international student life on the campus and to strengthening the offer for support for Incoming students. At the same time, also the experiences being made in the fields of staff mobility contribute to more internationalised contents in the field of teaching and research, whereupon especially teaching staff mobilities may also have a positive effect in regard to further/additional cooperation activities with Erasmus+ partners.
