Hiber 2015, 4th International Forum of the European Youth Parliament Spain brought together 149 youngsters aged between 16 and 22 in the city of Zaragoza (Spain) in July 2015. Youngsters from 13 different European countries (not only EU Member States) took part in this session, in order to discuss some current European issues. The participants were divided into 10 different groups in which they worked on an especific topic of their choice that was assigned to them before the session started. These groups are aways named after the European Parliament Committees depending on the topic to deal with, which often varies from transportation to constitutional affairs or international relations.
The process had three main stages:
The first one was Teambuilding, which was held in Parque Grande José Antonio Labordeta, consisted of a series of activities aimed to promote confidence among the members of the group, who were unknown to each other and came from different countries and backrounds.
Secondly came Committee Work. It was held in Universidad San Jorge and consisted of round table discussions on the assigned topic where all members in the workgroup participated sharing their thoughts and ideas. A resolution was made out of the final conclusions.
Finally, there was a General Assembly (held in CaixaForum Zaragoza) where all committees' resolutions were presented and discussed.
These three main stages were complemented with some other funner activities such as Euroconcert (held in Conservatorio Superior de Música de Aragón) and Eurovillage, in which participants were given the chance know more not only about the host country culture but also about their mates' one.
Every committee was run by a Chairperson, who is a member of the European Youth Parliament with plenty experience in EYP field and is fully capable of running the debates and activities that were carried out during the whole session. They were also accompanied by a team of Journalists who were in charge of capturing whatever happened during the whole session week.
This session aimed to fulfil the objectives EYP has been spreading since it was funded, among which we can emphasise young people being aware of what European citizenship and democracy really mean, learning how to discuss on current European topics repecting all kinds of opinions and ideas and working in groups towards a common purpose: creating a united Europe.
