Lahti Youth Services coordinates Here we go again! short term EVS-project implemented in 1.5.2016 - 30.4.2018. Partners in this project are Iter from Gothenburg, Sweden, Zavod Manipura from Begunje na Gorenjskem, Slovenia, Tipperary Regional Youth Service from Ireland and Lahti Youth Services from Finland.Short term EVS has been one of the methods to help young people with less opportunities to find their path to education and employment. In this project we will continue on developing sustainable model for sending and hosting short term EVS volunteers, who are NEET or with fewer opportunities. According to the financial and political situation lately in Europe and partnering cities it has been difficult to sustain the good practice what we have gained by using short term volunteering with our youngsters. The other very current subject in todays’ Europe is immigration and refugees. It has brought up racist actions. Some young people with disadvantaged background are noticed to blame asylum seekers for their deprivation. In this project we want to increase the tolerance of foreigners and understanding for our youngsters. The objectives of this project are: to bring tolerance towards internationality, increase our organizations’ know-how in a higher level and among the workers who will be part of this project, to socialize youngsters and to give youngsters with fewer opportunities to have a chance to experience something they wouldn´t have otherwise. In this project 14 young people aged 17-24, who are with less opportunities because of poverty, social skills, unemployment or lack of education will do voluntary work. Duration will be either 1 or 2 months. The activities are planned so that despite of the skills or competences everyone can take part in them. In Finland volunteering will take place in youth workshops (drama, environment, media, arts and crafts). Slovenian organization has Children and Youth Centre (implementing activities, renovating work, taking care of animals). In Ireland volunteers work in summer camp and youth information centre. Volunteers will be working in all activities together with other youngsters who are at the same situation. They might be customers or peers or other volunteers. Activities will be selected according to the volunteers' interests and needs.Volunteers will be improved in: social skills, life management skills (e.g. cooking, money handling, washing laundry, keeping up the schedules), attitude change, perspective towards new and unfamiliar, future view, work and educational track, independence, language skills, courage and self-esteem and cross cultural understanding. On individual level the impact can vary highly. When youngsters are taken away from their comfort zone, they will get so strong experience of independence that it will have bigger impact than the normal everyday life in their own surroundings. With this experience youngsters are more open towards new possibilities, such as vocational education and they will also learn persistence which will decrease the possibility to drop out. Here we go again! -project will help us to be better with guidance and counselling young people in their individual situations. It will also give us chance to start the dialog and begin the planning for a professional and qualitative follow-up strategic partnerhips (KA2) project. Good practice means a model that is possible to keep alive during changes in the policies, economic situation, and organizational changes.
