HealthClusterNET believes that the health sector is a resource to be used more effectively for developing economic competitiveness at regional level. As such, the project aims to encourage efforts within and between the partner regions to engage the publicly-funded health sector in defining and delivering regional development priorities, thus contributing to better social and economic cohesion. Achievements: Achievements so far Health ClusterNET has now been running for 33 months & it is well established. Our Business Plan for 2008-2010 states 'HCN will build on its first phase as an INTERREG IIIC funded operation to provide an accessible, effective and independent knowledge resources for members, partners and sponsors supporting regions to join up regional economies and its health agenda.' Network activities are contributing to strengthening partner’s understanding & practical 'know-how' about how to maximise the health sector's contribution to improve economic competitiveness & social cohesion at regional level. Knowledge and learning is based on regional reviews, good practice case studies & comparative discussion to aid regions in engaging their regional health systems in regional development. Our partner regions are in three different stage of development: early development, solid progress and fully engaged in the context of the Health ClusterNET agenda. Health, business, government & universities at regional level are keen to work with us in the future in order to have a sustainable European learning Network to support their regional development opportunities. The final conference took place in Brussels November 2007. The interim conference & future-planning workshop took place in Budapest September 2006. Our operation held 4 inter-regional workshops: (i) procurement in Maribor (June 2005), (ii) capital investment in Krakow (April 2006), (iii) inclusive employment in Hameenlinna (October 2006) and regional health innovation in Potsdam (May-June 2007). These were followed by the corresponding policy forums in Bilbao (October, 2005), in Graz (June 2006), in Pecs (March 2007) and Liverpool (September 2007) where partners were working on the policy recommendations for our Policy Agendas. This is supported by a cross-thematic toolkit to aid integrated regional policy and planning. A revised version is now out for comment and will then be put on the website. 8 Steering group meetings were held allowing partners and colleagues to meet to discuss specific issues prior to the inter-regional events and manage the project effectively. As a result of continuous discussions with specific European policy & professional organizations, the work and future development plan of HCN was also introduced on a number of high level expert meetings. Several types of publicity materials were produced and disseminated. Also at regional level the partners used various communication methods to disseminate our results (e.g. meeting, conference, seminar, printed report, newsletter, local website). We set up a network Website in S2, which functions well (87 pages, 434 uploaded documents, 89 links, 450 hits per month on av). 18 ext websites carry HCN link. The use of the website increased continuously, serving the exchange of knowledge in the four themes of HCN and the information sharing needed for the smooth running of the project.
