Happy Birthday Charming Crow
Happy Birthday Charming Crow
Start date: Aug 15, 2014,
End date: Nov 7, 2014
PROJECT
FINISHED
The principal activity of this project is the celebration of the tenth anniversary of the “Enchantingcrow”: 10 years ago Imágenes y Palabras organized the first scarewrowcontest in the North of Burgos, with great success. A contest (with pure symbolic prices) and an invitation to create and recuperate an almost forgotten personality from the gardens and the campsite-landscape. We realized afterwards that the emblematic figure of the scarecrow unites all characteristics to introduce “modern art” in rural areas, one of the main objectives of our association: it’s poetical, historical, visual and attractive. To celebrate the tenth anniversary of the “Charmingcrow” in and around the natural park “Montes Obarenes”, where we reside, we have invited primary schools from the region to participate in a creative and educative contest “Happy Birthday Charming Crow!”.
In order to enrich the cultural & lingüistic experience for the schools, we want to organize this activity in collaboration with international volunteers from the Erasmus+/EVS program. Volunteers will have an important role in the organization and preparation of this activity and will work closely together with the organizers to make sure the event will lead to a possitive result.
Simultaneously, we will work in and around “El Hacedor”, headquarters of our association, to maintain exhibitions in the gallery and in its surroundings, where we have a permanent exhibtion in the open air. Volunteers will also work in the vegetable garden and for the organization of daily life.
As for the few possibilities volunteers have to get around (lack of public transport facilities) the leisure programme is also an important part of the project. We try to take the volunteers to places where a “normal” tourist doesn’t easily reach, such as visits to small enterprises of the region (cattlefarm, handicraft workshop, small-scale fabric), geographical and environmental jewels of the region, and we try to foster communication between volunteers and people from the villages.
We invite volunteers with an artistical interest to develop their creativity in a personal project. Their creations will be part of and increase the art collection Imágenes y Palabras already has.
The 12 volunteers from Italy, Poland, Croatia, Island, Austria and Belgium live and work in the headquarters of Imágenes y Palabras, a cultural assocoation with its base in a small hamlet in the North of the Province of Burgos (Spain). For the size of the village and its large and empty surroundings, life together is very intense and, independently of what volunteers will learn during the work on a more practical level, the experience will be social and human, is about respect and faith, about values and aprreciation. We hope both volunteers participating in the project, as well as the students, the visitors of El Hacedor and the neighbours of the villages in the region, with this initivative will comprehend and understand with more signifiance the richness of the word “intercultural”.
