Hand of Friendship 8
Start date: Feb 5, 2015, End date: Jan 4, 2016 PROJECT  FINISHED

Donegal Youth Service in partnership with Ayuntamiento De Burogs-Juventud, Interregional youth social movement of support of voluntary initiatives SFERA and Comune di Padova hosted an 11 month EVS project, funded by Leargas via Erasmus+. The project involved four volunteers working within different projects based in the Donegal Youth Service Headquarters. Specifically, two volunteers worked in the Youth Information Centre; one volunteer worked closely with The Donegal Youth Council which is a project under the management of Donegal Youth Service. The fourth volunteer worked with a Cross Border Youth Project known as Activ8. The EVS Volunteers placed in the Youth Information Centre took up the role of Assistant Information Officers during their experience. These volunteers worked closely with the Information and Development staff in the delivery of our centre based and outreach plan, including the day to day operations of the information centre and drop-in facility at the Youth Information Centre. These volunteers were also be engaged in multi-media work for DYS as a means to providing dissemination opportunities for our work. The Volunteer selected to work with the Youth Council took up the role of Assistant Project Worker and worked closely with the coordinator in the facilitation of regular Youth Council meetings and project work. This volunteer supported the coordinator in research, facilitation, organisation and administrative work of the youth council which included the organisation of a large county wide, event based schools initiative called 'Shake Up Sports'. The volunteer selected to work with the Outreach project took up the role of Assistant Project Worker, working closely with the Outreach Project worker as part of the Activ8 programme in helping deliver workshops with young people and adults. This volunteer provided administrative and organisational support to the Activ8 programme which involved residentials, workshops, educational trips and research around issues such as cross-border relations and the history of sectarian conflict in Northern Ireland. Some aspects of our work is carried out under the Erasmus+ Programme, thus the volunteers benefited from participating in the application processes and the implementation of other projects, e.g. Youth Exchanges and Youth Initiatives. The overarching objective of this project was cultural exchange; to offer young people an opportunity to immerse themselves in a new culture, whilst developing and gaining new skills and languages, which evidently resulted in benefits for both the volunteers and the local community.
