Hallasd a hangod! Közpolitikai párbeszédekkel az aktív állampolgárságért.
Start date: Sep 1, 2016, End date: Aug 31, 2017 PROJECT  FINISHED

Although the lives of those living in segregated Roma neighbourhoods (an estimated number of such areas is 1200-1600 in Hungary) are influenced by politics on a daily basis, these people do not know exactly what happens around them and they do not think they could shape political life. Our other target group, university students often express their disagreement with certain decisions but they do not have the opporunity to argue with decision-makers.The goal of our program is to create a platform where university students and people living in deep poverty have the chance to discuss politicised issues, to formulate their opinion on the matters and to let decision-makers know about it. The program would be executed in two phases. Both phases would begin with a training for 20-20 young volunteers respectively who would work with 10-15 youths under the age of 30 from the Roma settlement of Bag. They would discuss topics of great importance, about which they would send messages to politicians. After the evaluation of the first phase we will integrate the experiences and revise as much as possible for the second phase (another three months of work in the settlement). The second phase would be executed with new topics and new volunteers after a new training. During the program the participants would have the chance to take part in a structured dialogue with local politicans every month. The project would involve a visit to Bátonyterenye and one to Pécs in order to introduce the program to people living under similar circumstances. Furthermore, we would organize a public discussion on the A38 ship with the participation of invited politicians. We hope the project would help the participants become more conscious citizens, who are not subjects of political decision-making but rather who are able to shape it and actively express their opinion. The effects of the project would be enhanced by public appearances, press materials and intensive communication through facebook and our blog. These platforms would help us reach as many young people as possible and raise awareness of the importance of dealing with politics. The long-term effect of the project would be the development of a model of stepping up together by volunteers and inhabitans of settlements in order to express their opinion on local and national issues. The long-term goal is to make our society active in political and public life. Our model would enable us to later implement the method in other settlements too.
