Handelsakademie Lambach is a private commercial school under the head of the Monastery of Benedictines in Lambach. About 200 students are educated by 20 teachers. After five years of education students graduate and get the permission to apply for any type of university study. In the 3rd year they specialize either in Media, Network and Information Technology (MNIT) or International Business and Communication (IBC). In addition we offer a three-year-course for graduates of an agricultural vocational school (in the field of horseriding) to reach an equal level and those students specialize in Horse Management & Economics (HME). This education enables to take over management functions in enterprises in the horse riding and breeding sector. Our school is a certified CISCO-academy and we offer qualified education in the field of network-technology and multimedia. Foreign language skills and intercultural understanding is fostered by international language courses and multinational projects.
We would like to extend our knowledge in at least two of our fields and expand to a more international view of teaching.
Especially for HME it is essential to create European contacts as there are few possibilities for networking in Austria because of the lack of similar schools.
As in IBC some subjects are taught in English and business contents are globally relevant an international exchange and professionalisation of teaching competences are regarded as vital. These new competences should also influence MNIT.
As the school system is in a steady process of change acquiring new teaching methods is crucial for a modern school and for being innovative.
A colleague mainly teaching MNIT-subjects wants to broaden her English teaching competences, if possible, by attending foreign language courses in combination with IT-subjects. This could have a positive effect on future students' theses which will then be written in English.
For successful networking in the field of HME a colleague wants to get contacts to other teachers in this sector of horse management education to professionalize our education by attending special courses. This could result in a strategic school partnership.
The headmaster wants to improve his management competences and to do benchmarking on an European scale in cooperation with headmasters of other European schools. New ideas should help to maintain high standards of quality at our school. Additionally the headmaster will act as motivator for colleagues and promotes European collaboration (education for teachers, student's exchange projects).
The activities consist of special courses for teachers incl. foreign language courses with a special focus on Horse Management & Economics respectively Media, Network and Information Technology as well as School Management training.
The expected results and long-term effects are:
improvement of student education in the fields of HME and MNIT as well as improvement of school management
Interest in further European projects (sustainable effects on students/encouragement to take part in Erasmus programmes at university)
networking of European teachers
