De Kleine Icarus is the first Dalton school in Flandres and serves as an example for other Dalton school in Europe. Because of our examplary position we strongly feel the urge for further professionalisation. We firmly believe that by participating in this project we will grow as a training school, as a host school, as a partner of Hogeschool Gent and as the primary Dalton school of Flandres. During this project we will work on clearly defined goals, based on feedback that we received during our last inspection and based on observations and evaluations from our teachers. Our primary goals are:1. Adapt our infrastructure to our Dalton visionTo achieve this goal we will participate in following courses: * "The Sense of Beauty and Innovation"During this course the participants will explore new methodological approaches based on ICT which can be implemented in stimulating, safe and modern learning environments. *"New Learning Environments": What kind of schools should we build in the future? This course hands out tools to create new, modern and functional learning environments. Our headmaster, co-headmaster and the teacher for special needs will participate. Together they are responsible for developing and improving our schools infrastructure.2. Work on an integrated policy ‘Art Education’, with an integrated approach for al domains of this curricular, combined with STEM (Science, Technics, Engineering, Maths) ==> STEAM (A = Arts)To achieve this goal we will participate in following courses: *"Creativity in Early Years Science"The aim of the course is to support classroom innovation and to train teachers and leaders of European schools to act as successful change agents in their schools in order to promote creative approaches, in both teaching and learning, to science learning in preschool and the first years of primary school. *" Teaching Through Art Activities"The objective is to provide teachers with new and holistic skills, develop new and more effective teaching methods, raise the standards, variety and quality of education. The participants of this course are teachers that are part of our art education team. This team is responsible for the schools art policy.3. Implement broad evaluation and action-oriented working skills as an instrument to reinforce our 'Special needs' policy. To achieve this goal we will participate in following courses: *" Assessment for Learning Creative"The main focus of the training will be on how to use assessment of and more importantly, for learning. In addition to examination of a range of assessment methodologies used by participants currently we will explore forms of assessment for learning, and assessment methods for the more creative and diverse forms of learning outcomes which arise when using teaching and learning methodologies such as cooperative learning. * "Reaching, teaching and keeping learners methods and approaches to reach and increase retention of at risk learners"The main focus will be how to reach at risk and/or disadvantaged learners participating at any level or type of education or training via different co operative learning methods and to “keep them”, that is, increase retention. The participants of these courses are the teachers of the first and third grade and the teacher of special needs. These participants form the team 'Special needs'.4. We want to expand our ‘Dalton’ network by visiting schools that apply similar pedagogic principles. We want to observe their methods and share our experiences. That is why we want to carry out a jobshadowing assignement in a Dalton school in Czech Republic and examine the Regio Emilia didactics in Italy and Iceland.5. Develop a strongly supported language policy with attention to the mother tongue of each child * "Teaching Intercultural Communication Skills"This teacher training course provides an introduction to the teaching of intercultural skills. The course places a strong emphasis on developing practical skills for the classroom. The participant of this course is involved in developing our 'Language' policy.6. Explore innovative school systems en integrate new learning methods in our own curriculum * "Finnish Education System"During this course the participant will examine the Finnish education system and will examine how they can implement elements in their own school operation. * "Structured Study Visit to Schools/Institutes and Training Seminar in Iceland"The programme combines pedagogic visits to schools and institutes, with structured training activities. Participants will enjoy opportunities to meet and interact with teachers, head teachers, principals and experts. The participants of these courses are the coordinator of the KA1 project and a teacher of the first grade. They are both part of the ‘Dalton’ team that is responsible for examining and evaluating new learning strategies and for implementing those strategies in the classroom.
