The project entitled "Grow Up by Playing" will take place in Cluj-Napoca, placed in the heart of Transylvania, and north-west part of Romania. The Hosting and Coordinating organisation is Csemete Foundation, which collaborates with the Csemete Nursery School (preschool children aged 1-6) and runs the programme for disabled children aged 7-16. The project is designed for minority and children with special needs. The objectives are to teach these Hungarian and Roma minority and children with special needs using the playing and games as special method to become self-confident and aware adults, with equal rights and chances to integrate into a developing society, and play their role as European citizens. The four volunteers will come from Programme Countries: Germany, Greece and Portugal. Some of them are newly graduated pupils, who are unemployed and would like to be involved in voluntary work. Some of them dream to work with children and help them to find their way in life. The activities are designed and adapted to the age of the children and young persons, because they discover the world and learn by imitating and playing. Using this ludic method, which is archaic and innovative in the same time, we planned to teach them Hungarian, Romanian and English, adapted to their own age group, to teach them to swim, to skate, to teach them self-respect and respect of the others, and other values and tolerance. The volunteers will observe these goal oriented games, and later one they will contribute with their own ideas and games from their home country helped by the nursery teachers and tutors. The children and the volunteers will learn to play together, will learn Hungarian, Romanian and English, music, sport (especially to swim through adapted swim courses, and ice skating), art, science, culture, healthy living habits, environment-awareness and stories. The children will be more prepared to face the challenges of everyday life, the volunteers will have more chance to be employed, and the partner institutions will acquire experience in the field of international collaboration. As potential longer term benefits these children participating in the project will have a better chance to integrate into the Romanian society as equal citizens, the volunteers will know another culture, language and these will increase their chances for a better living and increase the chances to be employed, and they will become self-aware European citizens. Last but not least, the partner institutions will enhance Information and Communication Technologies, will develop better collaboration and innovative non-formal learning techniques. The staff of the host organisation will improve their skills and competences to work with volunteers and this will qualify them for further Erasmus+ projects.
