HMC mbo vakschool, is the only specialized school for Interior Design and Advice and Manufacturing Furniture in The Netherlands. We have two locations: Rotterdam and Amsterdam with a total of about 3300 students. Our vocational secondary school strongly believes in international work placements in order to strengthen the idea of European citizenship, the development of personal competences and to expand the (labour) perspectives of pupils. In order to make these international work placements available for more students we apply for an Erasmus+ Mobility Project for the fifth time now. Since the start of GO! (Grenzeloos Ontwikkelen = Borderless Development) in 2012, the number of international student work placements has grown from about 10 to 65 last year. Our students for these internship are in the age of 18 – 20 and are studying Interior Design, Manufacturing Furniture, Upholstery or Shipcarpentry. The Interior Design students are mainly female and specialize in consultancies of how to furnish private homes, offices, restaurants etc. They often get jobs in specialized shops for interior design. The students of the Manufacturing Furniture department specialize in wooden furniture, custom-made (ship) interiors and restorations. We have a small number of students who do Piano Technique, Creative Craftsmanship (shoes, bags, hats etc.) and Collection Management. Our mission is to offer each student the possibility to do a foreign work placement. Therefore HMC accommodates four teacher with time, in total 1 fte, for promoting these work placements abroad.GO4 exists of three projectlines:1. The work placements and language course organised by partner organisations in Spain, Italy and Malta.2. The individual work placements thoughout the world.3. A study and workbased learning for post graduate students in cooperation with foreign colleges. Some students are afraid to undertake this adventure. For those students we created project line 1. Our partners will create secure circumstances for our students. The students have to do research before they go. They look into cultural and natural aspects of the country. They make a list of Do's and Don't 's. They do the Erasmus+ linguistic assessments and preparation. In all project lines the benefits for our students are tremendous: They return more independent and self assured. Their social, cultural and vocational horizon has broadened, . They are no more afraid to use foreign languages.Parallel to GO! for our students we organise a GO! project for our teaching staff. It concerns special courses and work placements for colleagues at leading foreign companies. In this way we hope to enlarge the level of knowledge and to strengthen our international orientation. We want international experiences to be an every day aspect of our organisation inwhich we all take part.
