FINISHED
“Going together realizing our dreams” is a European Voluntary Service project which will be carried out at the Baptist Church in Zielona Gora, Poland.
The purpose of the project is a joint action for the benefit of other people, following the motto by Albert Einstein that “only a life lived for others is worth living”.
Three volunteers, one from each country, Romania, Bulgaria and Italy, will be doing both a charity work and activities focused on children and adolescents. In one team, together with Polish volunteers, they will be preparing ‘ICE-kids’ club meetings (International Club of English) within the framework of which they will be organising various forms of leisure activities for children and youth especially from poor backgrounds.
In addition, the volunteers will form part of the youth club (‘ICE-youth’) within the framework of which the film discussion group and cultural meetings will take place. The volunteers will be participating in a program for children from foster families named “Elder Brother, Elder Sister”. This program is a simple idea to make friendship between two people. Friendship with a caring grown up may help a young one in the acquisition of appropriate attitudes, can teach positive perception of oneself and one’s future and may also help in searching for values such as care, social justice, honesty and responsibility.
Each volunteer will be taking care of a few children spending time with them both at their homes and during the ICE-kids club activities.
During the summer holidays, the volunteers will be working in a team which does camps for children and youth, both away and so-called summer play centers in Zielona Gora, Poland. They will be responsible for the pre-camp stage (preparation of activities, camp plan) as well as for carrying out the camp activities.
The work in the camp team will be based on various means of interaction such as discussion, audio-visual method, presentation, workshop, and brainstorming. Also, together with the leaders they will need to prepare the camp plan, set up their working plan, share responsibilities and allocate tasks to the right people.
The volunteers will be responsible for the following: preparation of the materials for the workshops; help at the workshop and leading them at the camp; preparation of the games for children and youth.
As for the charity work, the volunteers will be assisting in food and clothes distribution for the needy ones.
For the project to take effect, various methods has been applied which are as follows: interactive methods and team work; individual work with kids and youth; building good relationships; sport activities; games and learning by experience.
The result of the project will be new skills acquired by the volunteers and the experience of different cultures of children and youth from poor and disadvantaged backgrounds, and also, new possibilities and arouse passion among those young people who have slim chances, and for whom meeting a foreigner in their community is still something unusual. Joint actions for the benefit of other people will help to deepen empathy and sensitivity of the volunteers to the problems of others
