The project “Go to school – be a fool!” is an international, innovative and inclusive circus project. During 2 years, the fascination circus with all its creative and enchanting moments, shall find its way into the schools of every partner country. The school Haus Widey (Germany) is a coordinating school that already disposes of a wide repertoire and the knowledge of circus arts. For many years, circus pedagogy has been part of the school’s internal curriculum. The partner countries schools in Poland, Spain, Portugal, Turkey and Greece also want to implement circus pedagogy at their schools. In addition, their cultural characteristics as well as their therapeutic competence are going to be integrated in the project’s contents. The idea of the project evolved from the “Comenius Project” 2013 – 2015 in which some of the partner countries take part. They have already experienced the circus work of the school Haus Widey in an active workshop. The main targets of this project are the development or rather the evolution of the international and inclusive circus pedagogy, its implementation in every participating school and the aid for students from limited social and sanitary backgrounds who would not be granted intercultural encounters and education. However, the project’s focus remains the inclusive concept, this means the encounters on eye level as well as equal acting and learning. Within the scope of this idea of partnership, different special schools (schools for students with special needs in emotional and social learning, mental development, motoric development and learning, Asperger’s Syndrome and autism) will meet students from the participating regular schools and they will work together on a common inspiring idea. A total of 52 students and42 teachers will actively take part, but there will be a lot more spectators. The intercultural exchange on the grounds of dance, acrobatics, buffoonery, juggling, magic, music, painting and designing gives every student the opportunity to become integrated in the project within the scope of his abilities and to learn. Circus pedagogy offers performance- and development-related chances of learning, so that everyone can take part in the project and be successful without being overstrained or subchallenged. The creative common doing encourages a competent behaviour in social contexts. The students of the particular partner countries encounter each other in their cultural and sanitary differences. This demands tolerance, empathy and the respect of being different from every participant. The work on a common project allows every participant to experience himself cooperative and communicative. Not least, “doing circus” means having fun together! As part of the project, two kinds of encounters will take place. On the one hand, there will be trainings for multipliers. During the 2 scheduled workshops, teachers will be conveyed the basic skills to set up their own school circus. This shall happen in cooperation between experts from Germany and the circus school from Lisbon. On the other hand, meetings between groups of students will be arranged in order to give the students the opportunity to experience themselves in a common circus arts project. During these two weeks, teachers can experiment themselves as instructors and reflect on the offered methods. At the end of every project week, the prepared performance will be presented together in front of a regional audience. At the end of the entire project, there will be several big shows in Germany with every partner country involved. Therefore, the results of the precedent meetings will be merged to one complete programme. Several performances at different schools and regional cultural establishments are planned. During the project, the students will be interviewed and accompanied by individual educational plans in order to document their development. The participating students from Germany can as well achieve the “proof of cultural competence” for their career-choice passport. This is a confirmation of key skills that could be acquired in the field of cultural education. This model shall also be presented and conveyed to the participating partner countries. Sustainability shall arise from the permanent integration of circus pedagogy in the everyday school life of all the participating schools. This shall be granted by the constant exchange beyond the project and by the “manual of ideas” that will contain the contents of the workshops, ideas for games, methods, creative activities, organisation and structure of performances, safety instructions and photos.
