PROJECT
FINISHED
Our project is based in Medinaceli, a small village in Soria (central Spain), with a high rate of depopulation since the seventies that has led to a population density of around 4 people per square kilometre. Specifically our work takes place in Arbujuelo a section of about 60 people in summer in the middle of nature and away from the madding crowd.
It is an iconic place from the historical point of view, with a natural set influenced by the hills and valleys of the Jalón river and its tributaries.
It is also a big tourist centre and secondary homes, as it has great access from the main roads (A2 and A15), that make it a meeting place with high potential and good communication, with 2 hours direct buses to Madrid.
In this context, our work focuses in involving young people (locals and people that comes on a frequent basis) in several activities aimed to provoke a reflection on the local development of the territory of Medinaceli in the future.
Our activities focus on education in the values of environmental and social sustainability of the territory through activities regarding responsible leisure and many others that encourage young people, as the main stakeholder in rural legacy, to get involved and participate in social life, having fun and appreciating local values associated to environmentally sustainable practices.
In the environment described, our organization takes part in the platform involving many local associations, and together with them manage a public space provided by the Council for the implementation of educational and cultural activities.
The project involves one volunteer to give support to the activities lead by the organization and where she will have the chance to propose new ones.
During her stay, will help in the organic farm and the local community as part of it. She will take part in the environmental awareness activities prepared, and will enjoy with the alternative leisure, working specially with children and young people.
These are some examples of the tasks where the volunteer is expected to get involved:
- Organic gardening
- Supporting agro-ecologic workshops and activities
- Intergenerational activities with the local community
- Environmental awareness and local knowledge activities
- Multicultural evenings: gastronomy, literature, films…
- Linguistic exchanges
- Arts and creativity activities
- Erasmus+ projects support
- Alternative and sustainable leisure
The volunteer is expected to be active and motivated person, who agree with the organization values and would like to get deeper in the rural eco movement, experiencing and sharing time and life with others. No previous knowledge of language or technical expertise is required.
The methodology proposed is to create a learning personal plan for the volunteer, and to combine diverse kind of activities, in order to make her experience as much complete as possible. She will combine practical activities with others more administratives and will have the opportunity to design new activities, stimulating her creativity and entrepreneurship sense.
This project will have a big impact in different levels, in the volunteer's experience representing a personal growth process, between the organizations involved strengthening their partnership and in the local and regional level, spreading the values and opportunities associated to Erasmus+, and enlarging the amount of people who would be potentially interested in continuing with future projects.
