Start date: Jun 1, 2014, End date: May 31, 2016 PROJECT  FINISHED

Our school is the first EPAL of Ioannina ("1st EPAL"). It employs 52 teachers for technical and general education, with a capacity of about 250 students. In collaboration with the 1st school Laboratory of Ioannina, aims to combine General Education with Technical Vocational Education and Laboratory exercise, with specific purposes the transmission of the required technical and professional knowledge and develop relevant skills-abilities, initiative, creativity and of critical thinking. The idea of our cooperation was born and developed 2010 through initiatives started after the first meeting of two school teachers ( from 1st EPAL and Philipp Holzmann Schule). Since then there have been three students visits from each school, namely: • September 2013, we operated as a host organization under Leonardo da Vinci IVT program approved for the Philipp-Holzmann-Schule entitled "Förderung Internationaler Kompetenzen Fahrt des Odysseus" • March 2014, 15 students and 2 accompanying teachers visited the "PHS" for two weeks under the approved program Leonardo da Vinci 2013-1-GR1 LEO 01-14800 • September-October 2014 - as a host organization for "PHS", with 15 students and 3 accompanying teachers, for three weeks • April 2015, 15 students and 2 accompanying teachers visited the "PHS" and other two vocational schools in Frankfurt for two weeks within the first of the two visits of the approved program Erasmus + 2014 -1-EL01-KA102-000243 • September-October 2015 - as a host organization for "PHS", with 15 students and 2 accompanying teachers, for two weeks • finally implemented in April 2016 and the second visit of Erasmus + 2014- approved program 1-EL01-KA102-000243. Some of the main objectives of this project were: • inter-cultural exchange in relation to vocational training • acquaintance with an educational system that connects the school to the labour market through practical training - apprenticeships in companies, throughout the course of study • to encourage the acquiring of experience through a combination of theoretical and practical training in real working conditions • to promote mutual understanding of cultures and educational systems • intern-ships in real work, so knowing closely the technological evolution that exists in their subject area in the European market today • to encourage creativity, initiative, responsibility and critical interest in technological issues • acquisition of "green" skills and environmental awareness • to develop cultural, social and language skills • personal contact with possible future partners • elimination of prejudice, such as racism and xenophobia In this mobility project participated 2 teachers and 30 third grade students from the 1st EPAL Ioannina, of the following subject areas: Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science and Electronics. Given that Germany is among the most advanced nations of the world in technological and organizational level, participants in the program came into contact with new training methods, new technologies and innovations that provide food for thought and improve their technical capabilities and professional skills. Students in the two weeks of each visit had a complete everyday program. Half of the time had to do with practice in real working conditions (companies) and in the laboratories of PHS & HKS schools and the other half with learning how to use the city transportation, visits to exhibitions, museums, cultural sites, factories and attractions in the region. The experiences they gathered and the changes in their everyday life, combined with the need for cooperation that emerged in the workplace during their intern-ship, helped to increase their confidence to collaboration, their punctuality in the workplace, as well as the reduction of xenophobia and prejudice. The diffusion of impressions through social media acted very positively and many students declared their interest in participating in a possible future program. We believe that participants were benefited in many ways by the new prospects opened to them in search of work, especially in the difficult conditions of our country in recent years.
