Start date: Sep 1, 2016, End date: Aug 31, 2017 PROJECT  FINISHED

CONTEXT/BACKGROUNDAs a component of the course, internships provide an answer to the need to create working conditions for the skills acquired at school to be tested and assessed in real-work environment. The project aims at broadening the range of this critical part of the studies by providing placements in an international context. These participants will do their curricular internship period at English/Spanish companies located in Portsmouth and Valencia for 16 weeks. This project combines three needs that must be addressed together in order to achieve an integral European training experience:- Language proficiency (including "techspeak");- Bridging school to work environment;- Providing an international experience, qualification and validation to extend the professional prospects of vocational students.OBJECTIVES AND CONTENTS- Young people's mobility in an entrepreneurial context;- European dimension - natural and feasible in a period where teen unemployment is increasing;- Adequate framework at cultural and social level - differences, equality and inclusion must be respected;- Technical knowledge and mastering of the use of specific tools;- Linguistic tools - real development of communication skills in English/Spanish, at work and in social life;- Recognition and validation of competences - Europass;- Effective impact and dissemination to extend the project scope - best practices, follow-ups.NUMBER AND PROFILE OF PARTICIPANTS22 students selected among final-year students:3D Digital Drawing (4)Graphic Design (4)IT Management (4)Multimedia (4)Video (4)Electronics & Telecommunications (2)DESCRIPTION OF ACTIVITIESThe project implies an integral education of the participants through the following activities:- 16-week technical training acquired in a key area of the course, in a professional company;- Previous linguistic training at school (general and technical English); OLS language assessment and OLS language course, and additional language course during the mobility, organised by our partners; - Social and cultural preparation - meetings with the participants to gain knowledge of the host country (prevent cultural clash)- Human and personal education, naturally built on the experience of the mobility, closely accompanied by the tutor/accompanying person.METHODOLOGY TO BE USED IN CARRYING OUT THE PROJECTThese are the main stages of the project:1. Mobility- Development of the project at the work placements;- Language course and cultural activities;- Monitoring: accompanying person from EPVR (face-to-face and remote) and partners;- Evaluation.3. Post-mobility- Reports, certificates (including Europass Mobility Document);- Dissemination.SHORT DESCRIPTION OF RESULTS AND IMPACTWe expect to improve students' competences relevant for the labour market, increasing mobility and cooperation between education and the world of work, also fostering our institution's international dimension by promoting European cooperation. This awareness of an European lifelong learning complements our national educational system, making a better use of EU transparency and recognition tools and dissemination of best practices. We will also increase foreign language proficiency and the use of ICT, and broaden their use at work and in everyday communication.POTENTIAL LONGER TERM BENEFITSBy testing and evaluating in a real working environment, internships buffer the transitional impact from school to work. If that is attained at an international level, with the appropriate linguistic, cultural and social preparation, then the skills obtained to prepare professional life acquire an added value as new opportunities arise in the European labour market. The project also provides these pre-working youngsters a solution that makes up for the saturation of the small and economically recessive Portuguese market in their professional areas, thus providing a widening of their professional expectations. Moreover, the students' linguistic skills will not only improve in the scope of the project, that is, in the specific jargon of their working area, but also in the daily use of the language, thanks to the immersion during the 16 weeks of the mobility. Finally, the contact with a different culture and society, where we will stimulate a path towards independence and autonomy, will equally contribute to a multicultural enrichment.
