This proposed Jean Monnet module covers a suite of 3 courses centred on the primary module, EURA101 Global EUrope:1. EURA101 Global EUrope: students studying at the University of Canterbury (UC), New Zealand (NZ)2. STAR EURA101 Global EUrope: advanced secondary school students 3. DISTANCE EURA101 Global EUrope: extramural undergraduate students around NZ.EURA101 Global EUrope is a compulsory course for students wishing to pursue a Major in European and European Union Studies at the UC. Its interdisciplinary focus makes the course attractive to students majoring in other related subjects. The course introduces students to the processes of EU integration as well as its wider consequences. The EU is the world's wealthiest region, biggest development aid actor and NZ's 3rd largest trading partner. Yet, the EU is often misunderstood in NZ, requiring a unique and multi-faceted teaching approach. This introductory course on the EU will encourage future growth and sustainability, promoting the discipline as a viable pathway, and raising the visibility of the discipline nationally.
