This EVS project "Getting Active in Vanhamäki - Part II" is a long-term EVS project, which is continuation from the EVS project of the year 2015. This time the project will give opportunity to four European volunteers to come to Finland for the period of nine months. The volunteers come from Italy, Spain, Hungary and the French island of Martinique. The EVS activities mainly take place in Vanhamäki Activity Centre, but also in cooperation with some local partners in Suonenjoki area, like association of unemployed people and local schools. The objectives of this EVS cooperation is to provide a positive intercultural learning experience for all the partners included, especially the young volunteers, the host organisation and the local people in Suonenjoki area. Three of the volunteers can be seen as young people with fewer opportunities, due to economic and geographic challenges, such as unemployment and a distant location. The volunteers will participate in various activities of the Vanhamäki centre and will have an active role in planning their work tasks according to their skills and interests. The volunteers will work on the organic farm of Vanhamäki and in production of organic agricultural products. The volunteers will also have tasks in the garden and kitchen of Vanhamäki. The volunteers will also cooperate and organise activites for the young asylum seekers living in Vanhamäki, as well as local youth. They will participate in planning and implementing different activities at the Vanhamäki centre related to visiting groups and happenings - and also cooperate with local schools and association of unemployed people. We hope to see a positive cooperation and process of intercultural learning, which will lead to more international cooperation and growing awareness and understanding of different cultures and European issues.
