»Get involved! Volunteers for intercultural dialogue« is a short-term EVS project that was held from 27. 7. to 25. 8. 2015 in the city of Cagliari in Sardinia. The project included six volunteers aged between 18 and 30 years. Preference was given to young people from deprived backgrounds due to economic and geographical barriers and cultural differences.
The main activity of the project was the preparation of the final stage and implementation of the international event "International Summer Week 2015", a reception project oriented towards intercultural integration and exchange that every summer brings together more than 200 young people from all over the world. During the festival the participants had the chance to discover Sardinia, its ancient heritage and unique nature, showing the world the beauties and traditions of the island while getting to know the riches of other cultures too. They were offered a space for discussion, sharing of ideas and personal growth, thus helping them to eliminate stereotypes and develop a deeper understanding of cultural diversity.
During the project the volunteers also had the opportunity to achieve new skills and competences that they might find useful for their future employment. They were introduced to people and institutions that gave them suggestions and help them to think, plan and eventually implement their own ideas in the future. Some of the results that we would like to share are:
- development of professional skills (team working, use of multimedia tools, activity planning, event management),
- acquisition of communication skills in foreign language and public speaking,
- acquisition of skills regarding the use of non-formal methods,
- development of multimedia skills (through the promotion of activities on Facebook, website, newsletter editing, blogging and audio editing).
This project has also contributed to the personal growth of the volunteers and their awareness of different international mobility opportunities on European level.
