GameOverHate
Start date: Jun 1, 2015, End date: Sep 30, 2016 PROJECT  FINISHED

Video Games are Europe’s favorite leisure activity, especially amongst young people. Whilst the games are extremely popular and address a very wide audience video game culture struggles with diverse forms of hate, discrimination and attacks. Especially marginalised groups are picked upon and are discouraged from playing. Video gamers often self-identify as white, male, straight and create an excluding community. GameOverHate seeks to promote inclusive gaming and cooperative play. The project aims to address a greater audience beyond its participants by involving the respective communities and find synergies with local youth groups. The project will use playful methods and reflection techniques to create a deeper understanding of the other in video games. Over the course of one year GameOverHate will host 4 seminars involving 24 participants each, dealing with different aspects of inclusion in video gaming, such as LGBTQ and gender-based hate, competitive gaming and attitudes, the role of developers for inclusive gaming, and racist threats in video games.
