Gaining New Skills through Artistic Expression
Start date: Aug 1, 2015, End date: Jul 31, 2016 PROJECT  FINISHED

The Youth Exchange : "Gaining new skills, True artistic expression" will stimulate young people's values of healthy competition, social entrepreneurship, respect, solidarity and mutual understanding. Through different kind of inputs about the topic of social entrepreneurship and daily challenges participants will be involved in a safe atmosphere of intercultural learning where they can interact, compete and cooperate with the common goal of participation and sharing their cultures, creativity and experiences. The place is Gouveia (Portugal) during 9 days,. It will gather in a balanced way (gender and countries) 30 participants (10 per country), aged between 18-25, and 3 youth leaders (1 per country) from Program Countries. It ill also have a Advanced Planning Visit with all youth leaders travel days included) in Gouveia. The main objectives are: promote the spirit of social entrepreneurship skills and values; promoting European participation and citizenship through cooperation and solidarity among young people and the community in general; raise awareness about alternative approaches to economy such as Fair Trade and Ethical Finance. Main activities and methods: during this youth exchange the participants will take part in several activities of Non Formal Education involving different methods such as business games, brainstorming, energizers, round-tables, food and cultural presentations, visits, simulations, workshops and challenges, outdoor activities, evaluation circles and so on. The participants of this Activity will learn about Social Entrepreneurship, Fair Trade and Ethical Finance attending workshops and organized by local and national experts (with support of IES - Instituto para o Empreendedorismo Social). Besides this main core activities of the project, the participants will have the opportunity to visit some touristic spots of north of Portugal. We will create an interesting and cooperative environment to pass the thematic values of this Youth Exchange and to bring young people together, sharing and knowing each other better. Taking into account the successful experience of the Euromed Food Day, we will adapt and transform it into one activity to share and taste the different food proposals from the program countries involved - this European Food Day will be an open event for the locals (youth center) and part of the challenges that the small groups will have to solve during the Youth Exchange. Results and impact: we expect this Activity to create a new attitude and citizenship of young people towards Social Entrepreneurship becoming active members of their societies promoting solidarity and alternatives approaches to economy (such as Fair Trade and Ethical Finance). In this way young people can understand their role in society and use Non Formal Education methodologies (such as simulations and daily challenges) to drive their own ideas, social needs and values to raise among community. The impact that this project seeks to create both in the participants and in the local community is great for the theme of Social Entrepreneurship (where the collective and community results prevails over the individual) as well as the methods used (NFE activities, challenges, visits, show cooking, simulations and outdoor activities, etc.) that allows a great interaction within the group of participants and the community. This approach encourages youngsters to be more innovative/creative, thus transforming their way of thinking and perceiving reality, passing it to the community.
