Furthering the internationalisation of vocational schools
Start date: Jun 1, 2015, End date: May 31, 2017 PROJECT  FINISHED

During different trips abroad and international projects as well as during headmaster meetings, it was expressed by many executives of vocational schools in Lower Franconia that presenting their schools or the Dual System of vocational education in Germany in English language is considered to be very difficult. Similarily they described getting in contact and leading negotiations with foreign partners as a major challenge. On closer investigation it was found that some of the vocational schools in Lower Franconia have great difficulties to design projects abroad while others do not at all apply for projects abroad due to language barriers. The aim of this project is therefore to improve the language skills, presentation skills and intercultural competences of executives of vocational schools in Lower Franconia in order to establish a culture and organisational structure leading to the increase of high-quality projects abroad. The quality manual of the NA-BIBB states that vocational training institutions with an international focus will have a competitive advantage in the future. This international focus should be further strengthened at the schools in Lower Franconia in order to exploit this competitive advantage. In addition, Lower Franconian vocational schools turn out to be a more and more attractive partner for non-German schools which themselves developed an internationalization strategy and aim to impart knowledge to their students about the German Dual System of vocational education. For headmasters and executives of vocational schools, the objectives mentioned above are therefore doubly significant. A group of 2 x 20 executives of vocational schools, e.g. headmasters, deputy headmasters, executives of school supervision and coordinators for projects abroad will be encouraged to participate in the project. The participants will develop their intercultural, language and organizational competences in order to encourage them to deal with international partners more easily. This will in turn increase long-term international activities at the participating vocational schools, a development which will be especially beneficial for the trainees and their apprenticing companies. The two one-week mobilities are planned for April 2016 and April 2017. The country of destination is Malta, which offers, with English as national language, very good conditions for achieving the language goals set. Furthermore, we are confident that with the very professional and experienced project partner ETI Malta, we will be able to equally achieve the objectives set in terms of organization and quality development.
