PROJECT
FINISHED
The project will develop a new teaching concept for introducing European topics at primary level. The concept constitutes a new and innovative methodological instrument that can have sustained importance for teaching. We will identify "building bricks" suited for young children to appreciate the meaning of Europe for their own lives. The European idea of unity in diversity provides an appropriate pedagogical objective for an early start for teaching Europe. The general aim is to equip students and teachers with the capacity to offer an interesting and competent approach to Europe. This seems highly relevant. Political socialization starts at an early age. Studies show that political interest and knowledge grows during the years spent at primary school. It can be further nurtured by well-thought concepts of teaching. For teaching personal, European skills are important in their professional education. The activities of the project include seminars at the University of Education in Schwäbisch Gmünd, further seminars for teachers, public lectures and discussions, academic events and an evaluation study at selected primary schools. The impact consists of a stronger European competence for the particpants of the activities and a stronger academic debate on the issue of an early European education. Long-term benefits are to be expected from the teaching concept as a core product of the project, and publications associated with it. Concept and publications will be made publicly available.
