The project "From Disability to Ability" aims to bring together 28 youth workers from Germany, Sweden, the UK, Greece, Serbia, Turkey, the Netherlands, Poland, France and Lithuania in order to discuss methods regarding the skills development and empowerment of young people with disabilities. Too often young people with disabilities are disregarded as without skills, so this project want to bring together methods for putting their abilities ahead of their disabilities. The project consists of a 4 day seminar from January 18th to January 21st and takes place in Berlin, Germany. It involves the presentation and discussion of best-practice-methods as well as workshops in order to learn different methods. Furtheremore, the project gives room to discuss further cooperation and project development. This will allow the project to become sustainable by ensuring that future projects with this topic are developed and the organisations will continue working on this. Through the project the participating youth workers, and through them their sending organisations, will be able to improve their methodology on how to support young people with special needs to live up to their full potential and develop their skills that will allow them to become leaders (for example assissting in leading a workshop). The youth workers will also develop their skill in project development and intercultural communication through working with people from a wide variety of cultures.
