Friendly People for Friendly Energy
Friendly People for Friendly Energy
During a preparatory visit in Poland we outlined a 2 year Comenius project entitled ‘Friendly People for Friendly Energy’ in which schools from the countries like Hungary, Belgium, Bulgaria, Romania, Turkey, Italy and Poland participated. The main aims of the project were shaping students’ ecological awareness, strengthening their sense of responsibility for the natural environment, increasing their knowledge of renewable sources of energy, encouraging them to look after the natural environment on a local, and if possible on European scale. We also examined our ecological footprint and estimated the situation of the environment in our regions. Also, we suggested possible solutions and ways of implementing them. In this way students improved their abilities to deal with difficulties. They also saw improving the condition of the environment as their duty. Furthermore, the aim of the project was to improve students and teachers’ command of a foreign language, both written and spoken. Increasing language competence through project contacts was the best way to motivate students to acquire foreign language skills. Another aim of the project was to get to know the cultural heritage of the participating countries, make new friends, learn about their music, art, literature, etc. It helped to foster mutual respect and tolerance, as well as led to an increase in the standard of work in the given schools. Everyone at schools knew about the project and took active part in it. The work on the project was of interdisciplinary character and it was incorporated in the schools’ curricula of eg biology, English, ethics/religion, culture, physics, chemistry, economics, IT and extra school activities.
