Fórum Olhanense de Juventude - rumo a uma juventude participativa
Start date: Jan 5, 2015, End date: Dec 30, 2016 PROJECT  FINISHED

The Project Olhão´s Youth Forum (FOJe) - towards a participatory youth, sponsored by MOJU - Association Youth Movement in Olhão, arises from a dynamic between various national and international organizations, following the participation of Moju in some previous projects and conducting several sessions with young people, which has emphasized the need to create spaces where young people can have a voice in several areas, and particularly in the direction of youth policies at local level. So the idea of creating a space where young people can actively participate in and produce positions on the youth policy arose. With the promotion of this project, we intend to contribute to the development of a space where young people can express their opinions and participate in decision-making processes in an active and sustainable manner, particularly with regard to the youth policies at local level. We believe that the involvement of young people in the development of youth policies and in the decision-making process is essential to increase the sense of belonging and to promote active citizenship of young people in their communities. This involvement should not be seen only as the support of our local authorities for activities for youth. This involvement should be seen in a wider dimension, where youth have an active role and is a key player in the development of the community, both locally and regionally, and even nationaly. Clearly framed in the issue of youth active participation, the project will run for 24 months and provides a set of properly framed and structured activities in three main phases (preparation, implementation and evaluation). To ensure the development and effectiveness of the proposed actions a Driving Committee will gather 30 participants from youth organizations, organizations working with and for young people, local public bodies and entities with responsibilities for youth subjects, along with youth will be created. This structure has the objective to create a space for learning, sharing and discussion of youth policies in Olhão, and will be essential to the development of the planned activities, that include meetings of preparation and training of participants, local sessions in assessing the needs of youth, conducting an online survey to collect input from young people, creating a document of recommendations for local youth policies, promotional activities of the project and the Erasmus+ Programme and a Youth Meeting. In addition to the 30 participants involved in the Driving Commission, the project foresees the involvement of 240 young people in the remaining activities, including young people with certain impeditive contexts to access formal and non-formal education, mobility and transnational participation, active citizenship, empowerment and inclusion in society as a whole, particularly in terms of socioeconomic barriers, with educational difficulties and cultural differences. In terms of working methodology, the project will be structured with a balanced combination of introduction of plenary discussions, round tables and working groups supported by various invited experts in the fields covered. The use of non-formal education methodologies aims to ensure the active participation of all individuals involved, and working groups and active methods will also be used to create an environment that encourages a dynamic involvement of all participants. In terms of results, the project aims to develop a new culture of youth participation in decision-making process at the local level, by creating a space of cooperation, dialogue and learning, involving different stakeholders in the youth field. It is intended to stimulate the development of partnerships and collective and participatory strategies for young people in the municipality of Olhão. In the longer term we believe that the experience of creating this structure of local participation can contribute to the implementation of a co-management body for youth policies at local level. Thus, it is intended to continue the activity of FOJe, which will include the promotion of existing opportunities for young people youth, that we believe will lead to new projects promoted by young people of Olhão and their organizations. Finally, in the area of youth, and to the extent that we want to promote the active participation of young people in democratic life and their interaction with decision-makers, we believe that the implementation of the proposed project will enable youth and their organizations to make their voice heard on how youth policies should be shaped, in this case the local level.
