PROJECT
FINISHED
STRENGTH OF UNITY
According to the study “The mobility and integration of people with disabilities into the labour market” (European Parliament, 2010), there are two types of measures to reinforce the inclusion of disabled people. These are passive measures (cash benefits) and active measures: guidance and counselling, training and education, and job placement. The project "Strength of Unity” will be focused on the active measures of the integration of disabled persons into the labour market, promoting the involvement of disabled people in the development, running and evaluation of employment services and training programs for disabled people and their employers.
The project aims to 1) provide educators and coordinators of our organisations with the opportunity to get acquainted with the situation of Pwd integration into the European labour markets and improve their professional competences; 2)identify best practices and common quality standards involving a consideration of the views and perceptions of disabled people themselves; 3)acquire new tools and methods which can be used in order to develop and implement projects concerning social and labour inclusion of people with disabilities both on national and international levels; 4) enlarge a European network of organizations active in the field of education and employment of people with disabilities.
To achieve these goals, the following activities have been planned: a structured course (Germany) dedicated to the strategies and methodologies used by employment service agency in Europe to improve professional competences of employment program coordinators; a specialized course in Italy for international project coordinators to acquire knowledge on international project design and management; a structured course (Greece) on social integration of people with disabilities for trainers of our educational program “Similar yet different” to get acquainted with good practice cases and gain new knowledge in this area.
To identify the needs of organisation, in general, and adult education staff and program coordinators, in particular, a study was carried out. According to its conclusion, the project goals were set up and a plan of activities was designed. It is planned to use different methods during the project implementation and dissemination stages: direct interviews - to identify problems and evaluate activity results - and questionnaires- to evaluate impact on the participants, organization, and community in general.
The expected results on direct participants of the activities are as follows: improving of professional competences and gaining of knowledge on organization of employment services and educative programs, getting better understanding on methods and methodologies of successful international project design and management, and exchange of good practice cases with European non-profit associations active in the field of social and labour integration of people with disabilities. On the company level, the project implementation will lead to improving and enriching of company programs and activities due to new international experience, acquisition of key instruments to increase quality standards, as well as promotion of collaboration between international NGOs active in the field of PwD education and training. The project will promote the improvement of professional skills, self-confidence, and greater self-awareness of the adult education staff, increase of quality standards of programs and activities as well as creation of an efficient international network of companies active in the field of adult education and trainings.
The dissemination of the progress and, in particular, project results will be carried out through articles in the local, provincial, and national newspapers and magazines, participation at specialized radio programs dedicated to the situation of people with disabilities, and during regular meetings at the Disability Councils of Reus and Tarragona and annual conferences targeted people with disabilities , representatives of the City Hall responsible for formal and non-formal education, civil society representatives.
