Formation of Thematic Tourist Route Groups in the DKMT Euroregion

The fundamental problem, and therefore weakness, of the tourism of the Euroregion is the lack of reputation of its tourist attractions within the region and on an international level, the direct consequence of which is the low number of guests, the short time spent here and the disadvantageous trend of incomes. There are similar tourist endowments on both sides of the Serbian-Hungarian Euroregional border. One of the time-honoured methods for the moderation of the enlisted negative tendencies and improving indicators on the long run within the European Union is the establishment of thematic tourist routes, which is able to draw attention to certain places of interest with the modern tools of attraction management – strung onto the line of a given subject-matter. The development of demand oriented tourist product packages and involving SMEs of the border area in marketing offer additional advantages to the border region both on local and “foreign“ markets. The development of thematic tourist packages, the designation of routes increases the reputation of places, establishments involved in the cooperation and as an additional effect it may also improve accessibility since, apart from raising interest, one of the fundamental conditions for the realisation of the visit is easy “accessibility“. Parallel with the development of routes the improvement of infrastructural background is indispensable (of special tourist nature, such as e.g. accommodation and also general infrastructural elements: e.g. network of roads) so as to ensure reception conditions in line with the requirements of modern tourism.
