For young people the division of Europe is only addressed in history lessons as such although it is an important element of the European unification. The integration of the East-European countries in the United Europe is a result of the overcoming of the divide and an important pillar for safeguarding a permanent peace.
For the young Cypriots the Cyprus problem is still a reality. From this point of view the confrontation of the past with the present situation makes the encounter an interesting one. The former line of the border in Germany and the permanent reality of the illegally forced separation of the two populations in Cyprus provide enough material for discussions and projects concerning borders and demarcation lines. The stories and experiences from the young Cypriots turn the picture into a very vivid reality. Vice versa the youth groups from Cologne and Volgograd can talk about the overcoming of the borders and the effects thereof on their lives.
Relating to the projekt the following goals will be achieved:
1. To gain information and knowledge about the participating countries and their history, lifestyles, traditions, and cultural
characteristics

For having a lasting effect a sculptur shall be created and erected, for instance a wooden fence wrapping by a barbed wire and marked with graffittis, which are expressed the thoughts of the participants. In remembrance of the battle of Stalingrad some of the memorial sites will be visited, also as a support for the worky by contents. Other activities will be determined by the present Volgograd and its surrounding.
The youth exchange will be held in Volgograd, the 02.08.-16.08.2014. In total 30 participants in the ages of 17-22 from Cologne, Deryneia and Volgograd will take part. They represent different social groups of residents.
Just on the background of the political situation in Russia and the Ukraine the discussion about division and borders is more actual. This will be helpful for the the common work. The erection of a sculpture will be a political symbol presenting the attitude of young europeans sustainable. Such a work promotes the cohesion and demand to particpate. In general a succesful measure is contributed a lot for the acceptance of the international youth work. If the particpants feel confident then a positive effect will be achieved for the public relation and the recruiting of participants in future.
