Football: From Interest To Career

OBJECTIVES The project aimed to display such interest as football as an opportunity to become a young leader and organizer or - to be more efficient in future career. The project not only promoted football as sports, useful for health, but also showed the link between football and possibilities for self-development, confidence, self-affirmation, creating and fighting for own ideas. The young participants were expected to get project managing, organizing and group working skills, as well as inspiration for their first steps in career – business or voluntary work, to develop their self-belief and activeness. ACTIVITIES AND METHODS • Socializing, team-building and intercultural integration Methods: the laundry of fears and expectations, ice-breaking, energizers, international evening-café, open space together • Healthy life-style and sports Methods: open air activities, joining public sports activities Friskis and Svettis in Stockholm, playing football, creating a tips list about feeling oneself good every day, visiting sports museum – purposeful sightseeing, round table discussions • Analysing different aspects of football Methods: purposeful watching of football training, meeting football players, drawing stereotypes and different aspects of football, working in a small group, discussions and workshops • Awareness of youth unemployment problems and career perspectives Methods: work in small group, interviews in pairs, personal couching lecture and practical tasks, common reflections, individual planning • Learning project writing and organization skills Methods: seminar on project writing, stories about positive examples, presentations of organizations’ work, brain storm, project writing-filling in forms, project idea presentations, individual planning OUTCOMES The participants overcome their individual fears and barriers, became more confident and open. The feeling of tolerance and respect to multiculturalism was developed among the young people. The football was shown as one of the interests that can lead to further steps and activeness in youngsters’ careers. They learned project managing and organizing skills, as well as saw positive experiences of other partners and got inspired for own activities, so they created several ideas for future projects and planned steps for personal development. The developed competences noted even in participants' Youthpass were: communication in foreign language, learning to learn, social and civic competence, sense of initiative and entrepreneurship, cultural awareness and expression. The list of future ideas, individual intentions, broad contact network for cooperation and friendship in different countries were created. TIME AND VENUE 24th-30 July 2011, Stockholm PARTICIPANTS 7 countries were represented by 4 young people + one group leader each. The background of participants: 18-25 years old, mostly students in need to decide on their career plans. Even several participants with fewer opportunities were involved in the project: ethnic minority representatives, people from geographic peripheries and people with social problems. PARTNERS The project was organized by Swedish non-governmental organization Framtidståget. The association deals with professional cognitive treatment work, providing psychological help to people with social problems – alcohol and drug addiction, violence in family, discrimination in society etc. In the framework of ideal, humanitarian work various integration projects are organized. Youth is Framtidståget’s main target group.
