FEED - Food, Energy, Europe, Development is a youth exchange that takes inspiration from the parallel big international event, EXPO Milan 2015, and whose core theme is the topic of food and sustainable development and the fight against youth unemployment.
Through the youth exchange participants will find out new ways in which food can contribute to a sustainable future, where everyone can have access to healthy, safe and sufficient food, while respecting the Planet and its equilibrium. In the meantime, FEED will offer the opportunity to better know the new working opportunities offered by green economy, inspiring the participants to a professional and intrepreneurial development: that's why the project is particularly adressed to young "neet - not in education, employment or training".
"Feeding the Planet, Energy for Life" is the thread that runs through the whole EXPO, and in Vicenza the young participants will concretely explore the theme in a territory where agriculture has a long tradition and the industrial sector has been developing strongly in the past century, but where now young people are fighting against the problem of unemployment.
Reflection on the Expo theme will allow to discover local zero food miles (“from farm to fork”) and producers, seasonal production and ways of cooking which take inspiration from cultural traditions and local products of the participants. The foreseen non formal activities will trigger off an intercultural dialogue while experimenting and creating new real plates, but also a reflection on the main theme of the project while fostering skills and abilities which can be useful for a personal but also professional development. The project will then help to increase active citizenship of the participants and the awareness about the importance of every day habits related to food as consumers through non formal workshops and activities.
The project will lead to create a young cooking Ebook with easy-to-do recipes that the participants will experiment during the exchange using zero miles food and local products of different countries. The publication will also reserve some space where to collect a description of some activities of the exchange and participants’impressions, experiences, commitments and wishes for a sustainable future of our planet.
