Fly High - the principles of aviation as an opportunity to make physical theory accessible

One of the major challenges of modern European school systems is how to teach and learn especially abstract forms of natural sciences like mathematics and physics. Facing the future challenges of modern Europe these competences together with key and social competences are considered to be of crucial importance for development and reaching the goal of being the most knowledge driven society in the world. The substance of the subjects envisaged create pedagogical challenges in a more and more concrete, practical and life oriented school environment. These challenge will be faced by the project Fly High which is using a subject of public interest (aviation) to teach mathematical and physical competences as well as intersubject and key competences in a modern, lively and interesting way. The main target group of the project are teachers of lower and upper secondary school in mathematics and physics but also related subjects like geography, economics or languages as well as their students in an indirect target group approach. The main outputs of the project will be a new curriculum and a set of a set of corresponding teaching materials for implementing an "aviation special" into mathematic and physics but also other subject teaching on lower and upper secondary school level. The outputs will be developed by a comprehensive consortium of schools, universities, associations and a number of associated partners from business and aviation industry. All results will be available in all partner languages as well as in an English master version for further use. The whole project development steps are embedded in a comprehensive and effective dissemination and exploitation approach to reach a widest possible effect and sustainable use of the project outputs.
