Flight safety and airworthiness - a masters programme
Start date: Oct 15, 2015, End date: Oct 14, 2018 PROJECT  FINISHED

The international aviation industry understandably devotes much attention to the question of Flight safety and airworthiness, stressing the need for a holistic understanding between the machines, people who use them and the environment in which they operate throughout the aircraft’s life cycle. This project addresses the issue by developing an educational programme that assists in bringing the approach to Air safety in the partner countries into line with international best practice. It will result in an internationally compatible and recognized module based Masters Programme in “Flight safety and airworthiness”. A strong partnership combining three strong EU Universities in the Aerospace field will work in close cooperation with two leading Uzbek Universities and four strong Russian Universities, including the country’s main Civil Aviation Institute and 3 National Research Universities. Stakeholder involvement in the project will be strong with the involvement of Ulyanovsk and Samara Aviation Cluster and the Pegasus network of European Aerospace Universities. This will strengthen the University- Labour market relationship. Focusing on flight safety, airworthiness and safety management systems is particularly beneficial from the point of view of innovative approaches to life-long learning. Aviation Safety Management Systems require a change in mind set, away from traditional compartmentalised training emphasising technical solutions to the use of a formal, holistic top-down business approach to managing safety risk by establishing polices, organisational structures and accountabilities backed by a safety promotion framework and culture. This project assists in harmonising the approach to training in aviation safety issues with international best practice, by developing international partnerships between leading aerospace HEIs with a specific focus on flight safety and providing the capacity necessary for supporting these programmes in the partner countries.
