The role of social dimension in designing the higher education policies is for long time accepted as very important at national level. In this regard, the statistical data related with social dimension of higher education were collected periodically at national level, directly from universities and/or national statistical agency, being very usefull especially for the general and objective overview. However, the students perspective regarding the main topics of the social dimension adds more value by focusing on some detailed and complex specific analyses, all these helping the HE policies to respond in a better way to the students needs.Romania has been part of the EUROSTUDENT project since 2005 and for its fourth and fifth edition, The Executive Agency for Higher Education, Research, Development and Innovation Funding (UEFISCDI), in collaboration with the Institute for Educational Sciences (ISE), represented Romania and carried out the project activities at national level. The key results of the EUROSTUDENT project provided Romania with insightful information on the social and economic conditions of students, being a valuable tool in the monitoring and collection of evidence-based data on the social dimension of higher education. Also the EUROSTUDENT results and information are very useful at national level for assessing the socio-economic background and living conditions of students, international mobility and, in the same time, for supporting the efforts in improving and reforming the social dimension of higher education life and in designing more coherent policies for social inclusion, to increase participation and to improve skills and competencies acquired during higher education programs etc.The national participation in this project will contributes to the cross country comparison of data on social dimension of Europan higher education, the insights from these being useful to review and improve the situation at national level.
