Social exclusion is a major social problem of our time, which has replaced the "old notions of" poverty and marginalization. Social indifference and apathy regarding different social groups and social conflicts, lack of social activity and methods for improving the situation of socially marginalized groups represent a problem in multicultural communities of Europe.
The project theme dealt with filming short movies by participants on the theme of how they perceive the social exclusion, poverty, homelessness, disability, membership of an ethnic minority, lack of adequate literacy skills, unemployment, family circumstances, addiction problems and similar issues connected to social exclusion, and raising the awareness of general public, government officials and European officials about the existing problem and provoking a solution not only from the officials but from each individual who would see a movie or hear about the problem from a friend. This project offered to youngsters the opportunity to make their voice heard and to express their view upon fighting against poverty and social exclusion.
Each group consisted of four young people aged 17-30 + one an experienced youth leader. This YE included participants from different backgrounds, especially groups of people with fewer opportunities or marginalized groups of people.
The working methods included practical workshops on the basics of creating short movies, writing a script, filming on location, acting, editing materials etc. Also, the working methods included many non-formal learning activities like group work, presentation, discusion, for more in-depth grasping of the problem of social inclusion.
The project design first prepared the participants with their own attitudes and opinions, and afterwards they are filmed what they have attained.
The main impact of this youth exchange was made on participants who got knowledge, skills and attitude about social inclusion. During this exchange participants improve their intercultural skills in a variety of interactive workshops. They acquire knowledge and skills related to the film. Most importantly, they have created several films that have inclusion as an opportunity for mutual enrichment and promote inclusive activities by and for young people.
Partners got skilled members that can work more quality on topic social inclusion.
Further on, not only the project would influenced our participants- continuing working on raising awareness about social exclusion via visual tools- it will influence the local community included in the movies, the community that have seen the movies.
