FFG is an annual international festival with a strong focus on European cinema. It presents some 100 features and 30 shorts from across the world. The aim of the festival is to celebrate cinema in its most multifaceted form and to sample the art of film in all its richness, diversity and capacity to surprise and inspire. Our interest in fresh cinema, discovery and experimentation doesn't exclude mainstream quality cinema and established talent. The task of the festival is to showcase innovative, creative and rewarding cinema to a big, diverse and mainly young audience (Ghent is one of Flanders’ largest student cities). FFG is committed to supporting European filmmakers, offering a platform for emerging talent and introducing them to the audience. Every year it has film music as the main focus, through which the organisation found its unique place in the international festival calendar. FFG is the producer of the annual World Soundtrack Awards Ceremony. But we also try to find a year-specific focus (a country or thematic focus – In 2014 French Cinema; in 2015 UK Cinema; in 2016 Scandinavian cinema). With this film program and sidebar events (concerts, exhibitions, educational and networking projects) we aim to reach an audience of about 110.000 visitors. The fest also reaches its audience during the year by several projects, such as the film programs One Shot Cinema (in Gent) and Cineclub (in Brussles); ad hoc screenings and concerts (or partnerships in concerts by other organisations) and through a weekly e-newsletter. The festival also has future ambitions for starting up a Flemish film portal site. This site would combine information (all cinema-, DVD-, VOD-releases; info on films on TV; festival news; general film news; …) and guidance and reflection (through editorials). Thus the festival is working on a three-track-policy: a year-long online presence; pop-up events and the culminating event each year in October (Film Fest Gent).
